EV Charging

Practical guidance on EV charging choices, site infrastructure and how charging can fit into wider energy planning.

Home charging is usually the simplest of these decisions and the one most often made in isolation. A charge point is an electrical load added to a property that was wired before anyone in it owned an electric car, and it sits alongside whatever else has already been added, or is about to be.

Eco Connect Services is an independent advisory business. We do not install. Where installation work is appropriate it is carried out by a vetted delivery partner, and the final technical advice and the quotation sit with them.

More on this topic

This hub is small, and there is no point pretending otherwise. There are two guides: one on what your property will actually allow, and one on whether charging from your own solar panels really works. Both are about the questions worth settling before a quotation, rather than about which unit to buy.

How well any of it works for you depends on your property and your routine: when the car is at home, what else is running at that hour, and what the incoming supply can carry. Those are worth establishing first.

The permissions for a home charge point are the householder’s responsibility rather than the installer’s, so it is worth reading what permitted development covers for charge points, and what the Building Regulations do not require of an existing home.
