Heat Pumps

Practical guidance on heat-pump suitability and the wider building and energy factors that inform a considered decision.

Most of the heat pump information online is written by people who install heat pumps. This is not.

Eco Connect Services is an independent advisory business. We do not install heat pumps, we do not arrange them, and we are not certified to assess or specify one. What we do is help people work out whether a property is ready for the work they are considering, and in what order that work should happen. On heat pumps, the honest answer is very often “not yet, and here is what comes first”.

That is a less appealing sentence than the grant figure, so it tends not to get said. We are saying it because it is the useful part.

Every rule on these pages is dated and linked to the government source it comes from. Where we could not verify something, we say so rather than guess.

What we do not do

We would rather be clear about this here than have you find out at the end of a conversation.

Eco Connect does not install heat pumps. We do not specify or size them, we do not carry out heat loss calculations, we are not MCS certified, and we cannot apply for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme on your behalf. Only an MCS certified installer can do that.

For quotations, use the MCS find an installer tool and get more than one. https://mcscertified.com/find-an-installer/

For a first indication of whether a heat pump might suit your home, the government publishes its own heat pump check. Ofgem describes it as a general resource that does not assess grant eligibility, which is the right way to read it. https://www.heat-pump-check.service.gov.uk/

What we can help with is the part that usually comes first: an independent look at the property, what is losing heat, what the electrical supply can carry, and whether efficiency work, solar or storage is the better next move. Sometimes the answer is that nothing should be bought yet.

Grant values, eligibility rules and planning rules change. Every figure on these pages is dated and linked to the GOV.UK or Ofgem page it came from. Check the source before you act on it.
