Solar installation readiness checklist

A practical checklist to help customers prepare information, questions and documents before a solar consultation or site survey.

Illustration of solar suitability factors around a UK home

1. Energy information

The most helpful starting point is evidence of actual electricity use. Annual consumption, tariff details and times of use make the review more realistic than a generic estimate.

2. Property and roof information

Safe ground-level photos and basic property information help identify obvious questions before a survey. They are not a substitute for professional assessment.

3. Electrical and access information

Solar design includes cable routes, inverter location, consumer unit position, metering and safe access.

4. Decision information

A good recommendation needs to know what the customer values most.
